Breaking through -isms.

Choose to respond to oppression differently.

Pluto is going direct on October 11 at 29˚Capricorn – the final degree of a sign that it will not revisit for another 250 years, well after this lifetime. I am noticing an interesting invitation surfacing within my consciousness as we’re closing out a massive transformational era before Pluto moves fully into Aquarius on November 19.

As a Chinese-Taiwanese woman that grew up in a predominantly white, mid-to-upperclass neighborhood in Houston from the late 80s to 90s, I have lived my life through a worldview lens cut by an upbringing containing racist taunts, othering and self-loathing, and the pervasive drone of rejection, ugliness, and threat in my body.

I entered into a corporate environment in my mid-20s believing that I had to work twice as hard as my white male colleagues just to be taken seriously as an art director. I had to prove my worth, my skills, my indispensability in ways that seemed unnecessary for them.

This was a belief I held in my body, reinforced by real-life experiences.

Racism, sexism, ableism, any -ism you can think of is going to stay a fixture in our world for generations to come. It doesn’t mean that the activism work to expose oppression is futile. It’s just going to take a long damn time, way longer than any of our lifespans.
